LONG PARK (CITY PARK) | The Park was gifted by the Robins family. They owned the major grocery and supply store. They also were instrumental in establishing a clean water system to the community, and provided a road to Adams cemmitary when the road..."Claim Road " became impassable". The Family also owned a bank in town, it latter became the first National Bank. The one brother was the head of the bank for years. They had two farms, a saw mill, a bank, store, and a home in town. William"Bill" Shaver, donated the land where the Buckeroo was held as sport facility next door to the park. The city eventually sold it to Dale Burghart and he sold it to other developers. It was believed that a convent on the dead required the city to return it to the family if it's purpose was voided. It was simply called the city park until renamed Long Park. Lenard Long was one of my fathers (Grant Sharp) drivers, and retired to work for the city in the public works dept. Upon his death the city named the park in his honor. |
